Counter then Fridge

  1. Keep unripe avocados at room temperature cold prevents ripening
  2. Check daily by gently pressing near the stem
  3. Once ripe, move to refrigerator
  4. Keep away from other ethylene-sensitive produce
Speed Ripen special method to accelerate ripening of unripe produce 2-4 days

Paper Bag (Speed Ripening)

  1. Place unripe avocado in paper bag with banana or apple
  2. Fold bag closed, leave at room temp
  3. Check daily; will ripen faster
  4. Move to fridge once ripe

Cut Avocado

  1. Leave pit in the unused half
  2. Brush cut surface with lemon or lime juice
  3. Press plastic wrap directly against cut surface
  4. Refrigerate immediately

Slightly overripe avocados can still be used for guacamole or smoothies.

Fun Facts

  • Avocados are climacteric—they ripen after picking, so storing unripe ones in the fridge can trap them in a hard state.
